            This is what I do

            Picture
As a doula, I am trained to provide you* with emotional, physical, and informational support before, during, and after the birth of your baby.

I work alongside any kind of caregiver (doctor, midwife, nurse, obstetrician…) to make your birthing experience as satisfying and intervention-free as possible.

*remember that ”you” refers to you and your partner, if you have one.

I like to get to know you well in your pregnancy, and for you to feel comfortable having me by your side. I like to meet you at least a couple of times prenatally to understand what kind of birth you want, and how I can best support you through it. I consider it my responsibility to prepare you with all the information you need before you go on your big journey toward parenthood. I am available by phone anytime you need to talk. I also arrange a back-up doula for any emergency situations where I cannot be at your birth.

When you go into labour, I am available to come over and be with you as early or late as you want me to. I stay with you as long as you need me- at home and /or in the hospital. I help you cope with labour, and share my skills to make it as short and easy as possible. I am there to hold your hand, or help you find a position that works for you, or bring you back to your breath, or massage your back, or wail loudly with you…or just play photographer as the baby comes out. Each couple needs something different, and I try to find that 'something'. I am also there to help you understand your choices as your journey progresses (or if it starts to move away from your birthplan) so you can make informed decisions.

I stay with you for some hours after the birth- if you need me (someone has to do the cleaning up, right?). I like to visit a couple times in the next few days and offer help with breastfeeding and any other tricky situations. I am a masseuse and am happy to do a post-partum massage (it feels so incredibly good after the hard work of birthing a baby). And of course, I am available to debrief about the birth and help through any emotional challenges that may have arisen.

            My fee

I charge $700. I am happy to receive the fee in installments, if necessary. I do help women-in-need on a volunteer basis when referred to me by a social worker. So client fees help me provide support to women in difficult situations.
